C’est la fin des vacances rentrée !
L’occasion de vous monter le Winner absolu de cet été, Raindrop Cardigan de Connie Chang Chinchio.

Vacation is over – it’s back to school (or work)!
This gives me a perfect occasion to tell you about the absolute Winner in my private contest of knitted items this summer; the Raindrop Cardigan by Connie Chang Chinchio.

Ce gilet que j’ai commencé début mars a bénéficié d’une foulée le premier mois grâce au KAL dans le groupe de Malabrigo sur Ravelry. Et puis, je me suis un peu essoufflée… Laissé en attente plusieurs semaines, j’ai fini par retrouver mon élan initial pour le finir avant le début des vacances. Donc, techniquement, ce n’est pas un tricot des vacances. Mais en revanche, c’est le vêtement fait main le plus porté cet été !

This cardigan had a flying start way back in March during the Malabrigo March KAL on Ravelry, where I was supposed to finish during the month of March. Of course, I did not (I mean – I knit fast, but not that fast, and I occasionally knit other things too, just for variation…). So I took some weeks off, waiting for the knitting mojo to come back. Which it did, of course, and I casted off just before the beginning of vacation. Technically, it is not a summer-knitting-project, but it is definitely the most used hand-knitted item this summer.

C’est un patron qui est facile à suivre. Il se tricote en une pièce du bas vers le haut avec des diminutions pour la taille et les augmentations pour le buste. Le motif dans le dos est facile à faire et à mémoriser. Il faut relever les mailles pour les manches (la partie que j’aime le moins – et ça se voit…), et les tricoter en rond sur des DPN ou des circulaires (de petite longueur ramené de Norvège – c’est tellement plus simple, et plus rapide !!!). A la fin, on relève également des mailles pour le col et puis Hop ! Bonus : il n’y a presque pas de coutures à faire.
Ce cardigan ne se referme pas par des boutons ou une fermeture éclair, et c’est la seule chose que je changerais pour la prochaine fois.  Sinon, il est parfaitement à mon goût!

The pattern is well written, and easy to follow. It is knitted from the bottom-up with decreases for the waist and increases for the bust. The rosebud-pattern in the back is easy to knit and memorize. Sleeves are picked up from the shoulders and knitted in the round on DPN’s or smaller circulars (brought back for Norway – I recommend that!). In the end, stitches for the collar are picked up, and as the cardigan is almost seamless, it is just to slip it on and enjoy!
This cardigan does neither have buttons or a zipper, which is the only thing I would change if I am to make it again. Otherwise, this is just the cardigan for my taste!

La laine, c’est Malabrigo Yarn Arroyo en couleur Reflecting Pool. La couleur est tellement belle, et j’ai immédiatement su qu’elle était parfaite pour ce projet ! Et elle est d’une douceur incroyable (100% mérinos superwash). Un pur bonheur à tricoter ! Même si le fil est doux, il reste assez ferme. C’est un 5 ply moyennement tordu, ce qui lui donne une tendance à pelucher un petit peu. Tricoté serré (ce qui est mon cas), cela ne pose pas de problème, même si je vois un léger halo de duvet (c’est le mérinos). J’ai testé le lavage en machine en cycle laine, et le cardigan n’a pas bougé. Comme c’est une laine teintée main, et les écheveaux peuvent avoir des variations d’intensité dans le même bain, j’ai alterné deux écheveaux avec le changement de fil au long de la fausse couture d’un des côtés (pour avoir une finition devant parfait). Il est un chouia petit, et pourtant, j’ai fait un échantillon… J’étais peut-être un peu optimiste dans le choix de la taille ?

The yarn is Malabrigo Yarn Arroyo in colour Reflecting Pool. The colour is so stunningly beautiful that I knew this would be the perfect match for the cardigan. It is incredibly soft, too, with 100% superwash merino. It is lovely to knit! In spite of the softness, it stays “in shape”. It is a 5 ply just enough twisted, but not too much, so it do plush a bit. That’s the merino! But knitted tightly, I don’t find it a problem, even if I do see a slight soft halo. I have already washed the cardigan in the washing machine on wool-cycle, and it did not move!
As this is a semi-solid colour and the variations in colour may vary even in the same dye-bath, I alterend two skeins at the false underarm-seam (to keep front opening neat and tidy). The cardigan is a tiny bit tight for me, even though I did make a swatch. I forgot I am not 20 any longer ;).
