UnwindBrighton-Sweater

Ça fait presque 6 mois que j’en rêve. Dès que Dani Sunshine de LionessArts a parlé de son projet de faire un festival de laine & Co, l’idée m’a séduit. Et quand elle a ouvert l’inscription pour les cours, je me suis immédiatement inscrite. Elle a réussi à rassembler un nombre impressionnant d’intervenant : designers et indie-dyers venant de près et de loin.

From the moment Dani Sunshine of LionessArts mentioned she wanted to organize a yarn-festival in Brighton, almost 6 months ago, I have been dreaming of this. And when she launched the inscriptions for courses, I immediately signed up. She has gathered an incredible lot of teachers and speakers: designers and indie-dyers from near and far.

Mon programme : the Ziggurat sweater de Åsa Tricosa. Ses pulls simples me séduisent. J’ai donc eu envie de savoir plus sur sa méthode de faire un pull en circulaire, entièrement “seamless”. Je suis actuellement en train de faire un autre projet avec la méthode contiguous de SusieM, et j’aimerai comparer les deux pour voir les similitudes et les différences. Je vous en ferai part de mes découvertes, bien sûr!

My program: the Ziggurat sweater de Åsa Tricosa. I like the simplicity of her sweaters and want to learn more about her seamless sweater-construction. I am actually making another seamless sweater at the moment, using the contiguous methods of SusieM, and I would like to compare the two methods. Of course, I’ll tell you about it.

L’autre cours était initialement avec Olga Burraya-Kefelian sur le tricot en 3D. Très intéressant. J’adore ses modèles japonisants, très stylises et simples. Mais ce ne sera finalement pas avec elle que j’aurai mon deuxième cours, car elle a dû annuler en dernier minute. Je vais donc à la place faire un cours de design des chaussettes avec Rachel Coopey. Elle est extrêmement productive, et j’aime ce qu’elle fait. Bien qu’ayant seulement fait 5 paires de chaussettes dans ma vie, je pense que ce cours me plaira beaucoup, car c’est plutôt technique, sur l’adaptation des motifs par rapport aux tailles. Joli programme pour 2h30 de cours !

My other course was initially about 3D-knitting with avec Olga Burraya-Kefelian, which is very interesting. I love her Japanese-inspired, simple design. Unfortunately, she had to cancel her courses at Unwind, but I will instead take classes in sock-design with Rachel Coopey. She is extremely productive, and I like her designs. Although I only made five pairs of socks in my knitting life, I think I will like this technical course about adapting motifs to different sizes. That’s a lot to put in to a 2,5 hrs course!

Et puis, évidemment, il y a le Marketplace (l’antre de perdition par excellence, ouvert samedi et dimanche), le Pompom Seaside Shinding samedi soir, et surtout la possibilité de rencontrer d’autres passionnées de laine et de tricot !

And of course, there is the Marketplace (the place of temptations, open Saturday and Sunday), the Pompom Seaside Shinding Saturday night and above all, the possibility to meet other people passionate about knitting and yarn!

Pour patienter, j’ai commencé quelques projets, c’est un peu comme mon “Rhinebeck sweater”, mais en deux parties. Et je dois dire que le choix de la couleur s’est fait complètement inconsciemment, mais très dans l’esprit “Unwind Brighton” : le vert d’eau.

To shorten my waiting, I started some projects, some kind of « Rhinebeck Sweater », but in two parts. I have to say the choice of color must have been unconscious, but very much in the spirit of Unwind Brighton: the soft bluish green.

Mon “UnwindBrighton Sweater” est ce gilet mentionne plus haut. Same Same but different (contiguous Walnuss) par ANKESTRICK. C’est un gilet sans coutures que se tricote d’en haut vers le bas. Il y a des petites fioritures comme des plisses sur les épaules et sur la taille, forme avec des rangs raccourcis. La laine, Rowan Cashsoft 4ply,  est dans mon stash depuis deux ans, et j’ai complètement craque sur cette douce couleur verte. Voici le détail des plissées et la construction des épaules sans couture :

My « UnwindBrightonSweater » is the one mentioned above, Same Same but different (contiguous Walnuss) par ANKESTRICK. It is a top-down seamless cardigan. Some girlie details like pleats on the shoulders and at the sides make it interesting. The yarn, Rowan Cashsoft 4ply, has been in my stash for 2 years – and I completely fell for this color back then. Here, you see the details of the shoulder pleats and the seamless shoulder-construction:

Puis, sur un coup de tête, j’ai commencé un troisième châle Color Affection par Veera Välimäki. Cette laine, du Juno Fibres Arts Buffy Sock, était aussi dans mon stash depuis deux ans – il faut croire que j’avais une période de la couleur vert d’eau (nan, il suffit de regarder mon stash pour voir que c’est l’un de mes couleurs préférées !).

Then, on a fling, I cast on another Color Affection by Veera Välimäki, my third. This yarn, Juno Fibres Arts Buffy Sock, has also been in my stash for two years so I suppose there was in a green-blue period (or – that is one of my favorite colors!)

Alors, je suis très occupée ces jours-ci. J’aimerai bien porter mes “UnwindBrighton Sweaters” dans 10 jours, et toute occasion pour tricoter est bonne – dans le métro, par exemple.

Therefore, I am rather busy these days. I would like to wear my “UnwindBrighton Sweaters” in 10 days, and every occasion to knit is a good occasion – in the metro, for instance.
